Fiber Optic video signal transmission systems used mainly for signal transmission inside buildings (due to cable links limitations — maximum about 300 m depending on cable type for SDI signal) and for video signals transmission over city Fiber Optic networks, for example from TV studio to broadcast center and for communication between correspondents’ centers etc. Besides, Fiber Optic systems provide full galvanic separation allowing totally avoid problems caused by earth connection and/or interferences appeared due to different power feeds use in different studios as well as sourced by powerful transmitters creating electromagnetic interferences. Practice of use of Fiber Optic systems made by Snell & Wilcox Company in Russian TV companies assures their high reliability and quality, parameters’ stability and ease of setup and control.

Snell & Wilcox Company during number of years produces modular Fiber Optic receivers and transmitters of IQ Modular Series. IQOTX and IQORX modules allow transmit digital SDI signal with embedded audio at the bitrate of 270 Mbit/s on distance up to 20 km in a case of multi mode fiber. The same modules can be used also for transmission of compressed ASI video signal. Cards are installed to 3U frames; each frame can handle up to 16 cards.

Besides devices mention above Snell & Wilcox Company manufactures modules for HD-SDI (up to 1.5 Gbit/s) signals transmission over Fiber Optic cables including doubled transmitters and receivers. For HD signals there is harder limitation in terms of allowed cable length — 100 m only that’s why in complex systems designed for operation with HD video practically impossible to avoid Fiber Optic links use. SHDFTM/SHDFRM/SHDFTRM modules also provide signal transmission on distance up to 20 km.

All Fiber Optic receivers and transmitters have monitoring signals output, built-in re-clocking system and a system for remote monitoring and control over RollCall network.
