Optical node getting closer to the household Optical technology came in to TV cable networks yet several years ago. Now the time coming when Fiber Optic is getting closer and closer to households and in particular less and less consumers use the same optical node. Optical equipment is getting cheaper and more reliable in use. Optical nodes become easier and more convenient in installation and maintenance. In a product line for TV cable networks developing of the Polish Telkom-Telmor Company new modern nodes had appeared. These WOU-927 and WOX 900 optical nodes are fully compliant with operators’ needs. WOU-927 versatile optical node has two independent end amplifiers with high level of output signal (127 dBµV) based on up-to-date hybrid GaAs chips (developed and produced by Telkom-Telmor). Laser transmitter in return channel can be FP or DFB type with single shield as well as DFB transmitter with double shield. Active return channel with built-in equalizer and attenuator allows equalizing signals level between return channel and transmitter’s output. By means of plug-in module one can also limit lower frequency level in return channel (for example to 17 MHz) in a purpose of elimination frequency band with highest noise level. All control elements for optical mode made as plug-in modules.
Node’s optical part is placed on a top cover of a chassis while bottom chassis’s part is the same as in WHU-927 type route amplifier. Such solution allows operator upgrade the previously bought route amplifier making it optical by very easy way — by replacement of chassis’s top cover. Use of the small WOX optical node is available in two ways: as an interface between optical link and existing RF part of a network and as inexpensive building optical node for small number of user sockets.
