Devices for the audio control from Genelec Company

Review contents:

Genelec Company being one of world leaders in production of active monitors, has recently let out the series of double-band systems of near monitoring 8000 which was presented at AES exhibition in Berlin, 8…11 May, 2004. These are monitors 8030A, 8040A and 8050A, meant for change of 1029A, 1030A and 1031A accordingly. In this series all experience, collected by the company for more than 25 years is accumulated. In monitors of 8000 series many innovations are used. The first, it is system of minimization of MDE diffraction: for optimization of frequency and power characteristics the Genelec Company has developed the loudspeaker with use of high technologies with smooth, rounded edges and with front part and end faces both are slightly bent. The minimized diffraction provides an excellent sound picture. The system of the directed control of waves DCW was modified and leads up practically to perfection. Megaphones DCW have smoothly revealed surfaces and effectively redistribute sound pressure before a column: the sound misses a wide fan both from left to right, and from the top downward. That is at moving of the hearer the sound picture practically does not change, that is rather valuable in studio and is especially in the surround system. The new system includes a smooth surface which size is increased for achievement of flat axial and extra-axial frequency characteristics. It provides uniform transmission of sound to a wide frequency range, minimizes early reflections and other kinds of sound coloring, which for traditional systems are typical. Systems of the 8000 series have the improved design of a cabinet from cast aluminum which is provided with high durability and lightness at the same time. Each of monitors is equipped with the highly effective phase inverter port. The long bent pipe of phase inverter allows reproducing the deepest basses without compression. On its end there is the wide bell lowering noise and providing the clear playback of basses. Also the 8000 series monitors include new drivers with a low level of distortions and the advanced filters, and new universal assembly adaptations as well.

Compact 8030A monitor

8030A — the most compact monitor of this series — is provided with 5" low-frequency driver with 3/4" twitter, solved in the DCW system. The frequency characteristic in a free field is in the range 55 Hz…21 kHz. The peak audio level in two systems, fed by two 40-W amplifiers, is equal to 108 dB. Medium-sized monitor 8040A is provided by new 6.5" woofer and 3/4" twitter, at DCW design too. The frequency characteristic in free field is in the range 45 Hz…21 kHz. The peak level in two systems is 115 dB with use of 90-W amplifier for each driver. The largest model of the series is 8050A. As its predecessor which is popular 1031A model, it is provided with new patented 8" low-frequency driver with 1" twitter in advanced design of DCW megaphone. The peak level achievable by 8050A, is 120 dB with the frequency characteristic in free field in the range 35 Hz…21 kHz. LF and MF band gain is 150 and 120 W accordingly.

The complete set of each monitor system of 8000 series includes freely oriented support Iso-Pod (Isolation-Positioner Decoupler) of Genelec Company, allowing to locate the system as vertically, and horizontally and to direct the monitor acoustic axis on the listener. In addition to new round design and to a set of drivers, 8040 and 8050 models are also equipped with new crossover filters and Room Response controls. Desk-top (console) Bass control is added to adjustment handles Bass Tilt, Bass Roll-off and Treble Tilt it.
