Innovative T&M system for MPEG-2 monitoring and analysis

The MPEG-2 Monitoring System R&S DVM from Rohde & Schwarz is an innovative concept for monitoring and analyzing digital transport streams. The R&S DVM 100 base unit allows simultaneous control of two, three or four transport streams at data rates of up to 216 Mbit/s. By adding the R&S DVM 120, it is possible to set up a scalable monitoring system with a maximum of 20 transport stream inputs. As the instruments are only one unit in height each, network operators and playout centers can conveniently monitor a large number of transport streams in realtime and with minimum space requirements.

Owing to its unrivalled compactness and its outstanding adaptability in terms of channel number and functionality, the R&S DVM monitoring system is ideal for (satellite, cable, terrestrial) network operators, operators of playout centers, system integrators and surveillance government authorities alike.

The monitored signals are displayed on the R&S DVM 100 base unit that also contains various tools for signal analysis such as PCR and data rate measurement with GUI as well as table and packet interpreter. These tools can be used for analyzing all the transport streams connected to the R&S DVM 100 or R&S DVM 120.

The intuitive operating concept and the straightforward screen display facilitate monitoring. The individual transport streams, for example, are represented as symbols on a user-selectable bitmap. All elements of a selected transport stream are hierarchically displayed in a tree structure. Coloured symbols make for fast and easy localization of errors.

It is possible to centrally control several R&S DVM 100 via SNMP in order to monitor large-scale networks or networks with widely separated test points.
