The French company Angenieux is one of three world leaders-producers of professional lens for TV. It is possible to argue very long about true leadership in TV-production amongst participants of the known triple, in which two other companies (Canon, Fujinon) are producers from Japan. The first once it has got Oscar in 1964 for 10-times cinema lens with variable focal length and scaling, in 1976 — for broad delivering and licensing of production technologies of the high-quality lenses, and in 1990 for the personal contribution the award was delivered for cinema technology to Pierre Egene which is founder of the company. Created in 1988 the Optimo 24-290 lens to nowaday is an unexcelled standard for 35 mm cinema production, and designed on its base in 2002 Optimo 12×9.7 HD lens has got in the same year prestigious award CINEC for contribution to development and production of the equipment for electronic cinema.

12×9.7 HD and 15×8.3 AIF. HR lenses

Angenieux has a solid reputation in television sphere as. The row of known television translations, became the classics of the world television, were realized with use of its products. It is enough to mention of direct air translation of the first human steps on the Moon. In general, from 1964 all NASA space programs (there were over twenty), for transmission of space pictures were used the Angenieux optical systems. All lenses provided by an internal focusing compatible with frame format 16:9, are equipped by double multiplexer and neutral filter, protecting the front lens. For work with standard television 16:9 camera are produced the lenses with repetition factor converter equal to 0.8×, which saves the value of the horizontal angle of the field of vision when switching the frame format 16:9/4:3.

Amongst the last achievements of the company is the 26×7.8 AIF. HR lens. This is the most light and compact ENG-lens with the most high multiplicity amongst all like products existing for present day in industry. The lens weighs less than 1.9 kg and is intended basically for TV journalism, however it is used with success for studio and beyond-studio TV-production by low-budget companies, which want to get the shooting kit of the universal using with greater possibility.

15×8.3 AIF. HR, the lens of the general-purpose, is intended for use with portable television and video camera. It is used both for field shooting, and for shooting in small studio. The 12×5.3 AIF. HR model is a wide-angle lens for nature shooting and for complex erection studio projects.

Both lenses are created with use of aspheric lenses with special covering for raising of picture contrast.

One more original Angenieux lens is Digital 40×. There are two models of highest multiplicity: 40×11 AIF. HR and 40×15 AIF. HR. The lenses are intended for use with digital portable television camera and provided by a digital control system.

In 2003 the company has issued the updated row of Box Type lens for studio and field applications. The new products have a digital control system, which is raising field-performance data and qualitative factors of the picture. There are a perfected lens design, the protection of internal mechanism from external influence such as humidity, mist, smoke became more reliable.

The Digital 22 HR lens is intended for use in studios. The digital control system allows assigning the parameters of the focus and scaling regulation, to avoid the “breathings” effect at focusing, as well as to stabilize the parameters of the diaphragm.

The high multiplicity Digital 62 HR and Digital 72 HR lenses are intended for field production and have a digital control system also. For extension of the functional possibilities the lenses are provided with Shot Box and Support options. Shot Box allows to remember the parameters of the focus and scaling and cause their by simple pressing to button. Support option is intended for installing of 22-, 62- and 72-x lens on portable camcorders. To use of this option allows exactly to balance the lens and camera on stand, as well as abandon from additional power supply unit for lens because of Support gives power supply on lens through standard 12-pin connector.

Being leading producer of lenses for cinema industry, a special emphasis of Angenieux is also on the developments in the field of electronic cinema and HD television. The company is produced two lines of HD-lenses, the first is for using with HD-camcorder and the second is for cameras of the electronic cinema.

For the first time having begun studies in the HDTV field in 1986, Angenieux presently is produced the lenses of the new generation with high quality features.

The 10×5.3 AIF. HD lens is intended for HD-camcorders, using for everyday production. Exploitation values of SD Angenieux lens are small weight (1.8 kg) and broad vision angle (84°) which match in these models with all qualitative feature of HDTV. Due to this lens finds using in TV-companies, daily producing several hours of video in HDTV format and sending programs in air.

Most zooming ENG lens 26×7.8 AIF. HR

The 26×7.8 AIF. HD lens at this moment is used, basically, in studio complexes with portable HDTV camcorders. Low weight and high multiplicity of lens allow to produce with him the erection shooting with using of multiple auxiliary shooting techniques (crane, truck, systems for motion stabilization).

The Digital 40×11 AIF. HD and Digital 40×15 AIF. HD lenses are provided by highest multiplicity and very suitable for apply with portable HDTV camcorder. Present-day cinema producers using technology of the electronic cinema, from shooting equipment require the same functional and qualitative factors, which possess the similar products of the traditional film cinematographer. To give greatly qualitative optical products to the modern producer of film production, Angenieux has carried out a set of studies. The practical result of these studies is new Angenieux lenses for electronic cinema. There was also accented attention of the users on some uncomplicated mathematical calculations, which can be shown interesting. Diagonal of 35mm film frame is equal to 27.2 mm, diagonal of 16mm film frame is equal to 14.36 mm. In cameras for electronic cinema with 2/3" CCD a frame diagonal is equal to 11 mm. That is to say, size of the picture shot by camera for electronic cinema, is in 2.5 times less, than by 35mm cameras and in 1.3 times less, than shot by 16mm cameras. In case of using original cinema lenses with electronic camera a picture is projected on CCD and is limited only by possibilities of the modern electronic cameras. Produced for 35 mm filming the Angenieux lenses are provided by optical resolution which is equal to 200 lines on millimeter and above. Considering that the picture shot by electronic camera will sprawl under projecting on big screen by the same manner as picture shot by 35mm camera, it is necessary to have the 2.5 times spare on resolution. Then it is necessary to enlarge the resolution of the lens to 500 lines on millimeter for compensation of optical resolution under “stretching” of pictures. On the base of these simple calculations, the Angenieux designers have developed the Optimo HD 12×9.7 lens, which provided by necessary features and original design of the Optimo 24-290 lens, being standard in 35mm cinema. It is necessary to note that Angenieux Company always kept the following approach: for HD-cinema rather use the cinema lenses, and then adapt for this the television SD-lenses, transformed in Cine Style by designers.

The lens for field HDTV production

For using of Prime Lens 35 mm lens with cameras of the electronic cinema the Angenieux Company has developed the CLA35 HD adapter. The adapter is fixed on standard bayonet fastening of lens of the television camera with 2/3" CCD and converts the optical format of the picture, formed by Prime Lens, in frame format of the CCD without change of the angle and with corresponding reinforcement of the light flow required for normal perception of the CCD picture. CLA35 HD was issued in 2001, and during 3 months over 300 adapters were sold, basically to rented companies from Hollywood.
