Profitt’s titling and air branding systems, clock and logo generators Profitt Company pays sufficient attention to air branding systems and to possibilities of insertion into program broadcasted of logos, information about current time and temperature, close captions and crawls. The devices produced by the company allow performing both automated system for insertion of additional regional information into federal channel on the base of reference signals of frequency and time, and quick insertion of crawls, close captions etc. Generators and mixers-generators of logos from Profitt can be used within stand-alone devices and modular systems of Proflex digital modular system. The company produces two families of stand-alone processors equipped with logo mixers-generators. PSC-1081 high performance digital multistandard 10-bit video processorsThey are equipped with SDI, PAL, SECAM, YUV, Y/C inputs/outputs. All inputs operate simultaneously. These processors feature high quality of signal decoding (full bandwidth for signal chrominance for both PAL and SECAM decoding), low noise level (S/N ratio not less than 63 dB) and high quality of signal coding. They are intended for the following operations:
PVDP-1005 low budget multistandard video and audio processorsThey are equipped with 9-bit D/A and 10-bit A/D converters and are optimized for smooth insertion of ad or regional programs into federal channel. They also allow overlay of logo and crawl. The devices are intended for the following operations:
1081 and 1005 series processors which are equipped with logo generators allow performing mixing into output signals of logos, crawls and close captions. Logo and crawl loading and control can be realized from PC via standard RS-232 interface without any additional devices installed into computer. Logo control (selection, motion, on/off) can be done from the front panel, by means of remote control unit, GPI of from PC. The logo can be placed in any point of a screen; it can be static or dynamic and has eight transparency grades. The memory of device can store up to 99 logos with a possibility to select any of them. There are two variants of software for crawl creation. First one allows performing graphic branding and insertion of pictures into crawl as well as using various fonts and styles within single crawl. Second variant make it possible to form crawl with predefined color, background and style which simplifies operation. Setting change and tuning are possible while preparing the program for playout. The crawl can be used in three modes:
Crawl’s vertical position, speed of motion and transparency of background and symbols adjustment is possible. Crawl can be executed upon schedule with the reference to internal computer time. Below the examples of PVDP-1005A series video and audio processors for ad clips and close caption insertion with possibility of logo and a crawl overlay are given. Algorithm of operationSignal of a federal channel (FC) is routing to device’s REF and 1 (IN1) inputs. Because device contains synchronizer the output signal is always locked to FC one. Besides, information contained in FC’s VBI is being transferred into output signal of regional channel (RC). IN2…IN4 inputs are being fed with regional signal sources.
Electronic and relay by-passThe devise has both electronic and relay by-pass modes. In electronic by-pass mode the signal is routed from first input to first program output. For smooth and clear switching it is desirable that DC components of input (IN 1) and output signals could be equal. Output blanking signal level is equal to zero. In case when signal on the first input has different DC component it is recommended to use optional locking scheme. In case of failure or switching off power source relay by-pass from first input to output occur. Routing of audio signals fed to device’s inputs is performed synchronous to video signals routing. Audio level adjustment for each input separately is available. Audio channel is optional and can be excluded from a bundle. It is necessary to say that video processor is 4-input (6-input with audio option) device and third and fourth inputs can be either composite and Y/C or component and SDI relatively depending on realization which allows to use a device along with signals of different formats. Increasing of input sources numberIn satiations when more than 4 input sources needed it is possible to connect in an external Profitt’s router. It can be either single way device (for example 8×1, 16×1) or matrix switcher (8×4, 8×8, 16×16). A signal from one of video & audio router’s outputs is routed to video processor’s input 2. Upon selecting of 2nd input of video processor it begins operate along with a router. Video processor and router are combined in terms of control via RS-485 bus. Through the menu of video processor the router’s address and output number to work with are selected. At the moment of switching over of other input signal to selected router’s output the triggering of video processor to freeze mode is occur or smooth fade-to-black is performed. Short time later (15 fields approximately) de-freezing or smooth transition from black to normal mode occur. Transition type selection is being done through the menu of video processor. It is possible to control router and accordingly video processor both from universal control unit and from single task control unit which is configured for control of output connected to computer with appropriate software. Also it is possible switching of asynchronous sources by the external router without control via RS-485. In this case minimal distortion like “dropped line” in a single field may be visible. Sequence of actions during insertion of video clip or adAll federal channels are fed to first four inputs of router. From 1 to 4 outputs they go to transmitters. Video processor is not used. For insertion of clip or ad into FC let’s say on the first channel this channel (federal) is being selected onto router’s output which is connected to reference signal source (REF) of PVDP-1005A video processor. Onto output 5 of router regional signal source is being selected. Output 5 of router is connected to PVDP-1005A input. So insertion signal is on the PVDP-1005A output and it is synchronous and in-phase to signal of first (federal) channel. This signal goes to the router’s output 8. To insert an ad it is necessary to switch input 8 of router on to its first output at appropriate time. Insertion of regional source will occur. Upon the end of insertion input 1 of the router is being connected to router’s output 1. Switching audio signals fed to device’s inputs is being performed synchronous to video signals switching.
Proflex system’s modulesProflex contains 13 series of modules including logo generators and mixers-generators of 3027-3039 series. Logo generators and mixers-generators of Proflex modular system designed for creation of static and dynamic logos up to 720×576 in size (in accordance to Rec.601 for luma signal); logo may contain letters and digits at the same time (for time, temperature display etc.). Power independent memory allows storing several logos (up to 32). Logos loading is being performed via Proflex common control bus (when having CPU within frame). Modules provide control of transparency for logos loaded and allow adjustment of logos position over the picture, selection of logos from previously loaded and their switching on/off. Modules are equipped with power independent clock with display of current time as logo on the monitor screen. Clock’s value can be set locally or remotely. Modules range is given in the table:

Controls and indicators of logo generators and mixers-generatorsControls and indicators on the devices front panel consist of knob number for logo control and LEDs indicating parameter controlled and two digital indicators which display information about current logo status: active logo number, screen position (coordinates), transparency level and so on. Forming of images for static and dynamic logos can be done in any of graphics application: starting from simple Paint and up to more sophisticated like Photoshop and so on. For logo download Profitt software is necessary which processes logo image and mask in accordance to Rec. 601 and performs appropriate filtering and normalizing (putting it down into dynamic range).
