Swiss Wireless COFDM Systems Livetools in Russia

Digital wireless communications that has been used successfully in mobile telephony, wireless networks and television broadcasting of a number of countries (DVBT, ATSC, etc standards) for a long time receive high distribution in television production. COFDM systems are used for mobile television unit, operative collection and passing of news, sports competitions, concerts, meetings, nature and other filming. In other words, in conditions where it is impossible to provide filming of not very practical inoperative cable and analogous on-camera radio relay line (usually working in limits of direct visibility).

Swiss company Livetools is the leader in sales of on-camera COFDM systems on world market. At present over 170 system are sold already and more than 130 systems are used for rent.

Livetools Company developed production of new systems modified especially for Russia (for recommended in the country frequency diapason of 7…8 GHz). At first in Russia on-camera COFDM systems Carrycoder 7.5 were bought by NTV TV company, at nearest future the systems are certified and on their base there will be accepted corresponding standards. Unfortunately, before the beginning of this year in Russia still there were no such standards.

On-camera transmitter

Livetools Company uses reach experience of production of television equipment, gathered in European network structure Broadcast Service, together with unique developments of French branch Harris — ITIS.

Jan Franck Ksomo, ex-assistant of IT IS director in scientific research and constructive works and also expert in COFDM modulation attached to Livetools command in laboratory of integration system in polytechnic school of Lozanna EPFL. The laboratory deals with different aspects of audiovisual processing of MPEG-2 and cooperates with Livetools Company. After implementing of experimental program of the project of COFDM system Livetools came to European and world television market with support of Swiss Committee of technical investigation CTI.

The system became world famous after international television exhibition NAB, which takes place in Las Vegas each year. In2001 wireless on0-camera COFDM systems of image and sound transfer Carrycoder of Swiss company Livetools gained at once few awards. In particular, Carrycoder systems received the most prestigious award NAB Pick Hit 2001, confer to technical specialists of convention, and also DigitalTV Pick of the Show award.

At present the most exacting TV companies for operation with different systems configurations use Livetools systems.

Only for filming of cycle race of the world Tour de France Sfp TV company uses over ten Carrycoder systems, set on motorbikes, automobiles and helicopters and for every day live air of Zigzag TSR special equipped with Livetools systems and GPS positioners pleasure boat (on Newchatele lake in Swiss) is used.

Model row of COFDM systems of Livetools Company is developed for wireless digital camera connection of operators with collecting center or mobile television unit (Carrycoder, Camcoder, and Decoder) (index A) and for applications of electron news collection and transfer of video or sound, using wireless digital connection Newscoder, Carrynewscoder, Decoder and Carrydecoder — (index B).

Carrycoder is portable on-camera system, consisting of MPEG-2 coder, COFDM modulator and RF transmitter. It is compatible with professional cameras of all manufactures. Additionally it can be used with rucksack.

Receiver/decoder

Camcoder is build-in into LDK100/LDK200 variant of Carrycoder system.

Newscoder is the system analogous to Carrycoder, assigned for use in fixed condition with amplification of up to 12 Wt.

Decoder combines RF receiver, COFDM demodulator, and MPEG decoder. The system is assigned for use in fixed condition with any of above system: Carrycoder, Camcoder or Newscoder.

Carrydecoder is portable version of Decoder system.

Presence of controlled LCD display on systems and interface of consistent menus allow to operator fast giving and changing, when it is necessary, parameters of system (modulation, power, etc) directly from on-camera block. Also operation on different levels of access to the system by operators is possible what is achieved by giving of personal protection codes. This favorably distinguishes systems of Livetools Company from others, in which setting is done with the help of additional computer and port on the system.
