Equipment of GMS Company American company Global Microwave Systems (GMS) was established in 1990 and is situated in San-Diego, California. GMS was one of the first companies, which on the base of progressive technologies started to develop, and produce small dimensional equipment fro wireless transfer of video and sound signals with broadcasting quality. Main application of GMS production is in commerce TV broadcasting first of all in such fields as filming of operative news, sports broadcasting, broadcasting of big concerts, holidays and other large-scale actions, translations from the air (for example, for helicopter), i. e. everywhere where specific requirements to quality and reliability of channels of video and audio signal transfer are made. Besides these equipment is widely used in systems of video tracking used by law-enforcement and security structures. The specter of products produced by these company includes miniature and subminiature transmitters and receivers, which operate in radio frequency and microwave diapasons, different kinds of antennas, high frequency power boosters, different additional equipment and accessories, in other words, all components, necessary for building of perfect and totally finished system of signal transfer. GMS TransmittersMiniature GMS transmitters are optimal decision for use during filming by hidden camera or in other cases when dimensions and weight are critical. For example, these can be filming from helicopter, from moving sports car, etc. GMS Company produces few models of miniature transmitters for different application. GMS transmitters are different in constructive performance, outlet power, working diapason and other parameters.
Facilities of NT series represent last achievements of microwave technology. These subminiature one-channel transmitters with frequency synthesis operate in L, S or C diapason. Nominal outlet power is 10 mW. Products of this series provide transfer of video signal in PAL or NTSC standard with broadcasting quality and one channel of sound accompaniment. Entry of channel of sound accompaniment can be microphone or linear (depending on transmitter’s performance). Sizes of NT transmitters are comparable with sized of matches box and excel in low power consumption of less than 150 mA when power from the source of continuous current of 12 V (soon there have to appear models accounted for 5 V). Transmitters of XT series are one of the most contemporary ones. These miniature facilities with frequency synthesis can have up to 16 beforehand set channels in L, S or C diapason. Nominal outlet power of transmitters is 0.25 Wt, they provide transfer of PAL or NTSC video signal of broadcasting quality and two channels of sound accompaniment. Sound entries can be microphone or linear (depending on the use of transmitter). All versions of XT series transmitters consume the current of less than 300 mA when power from the source of continuous current of 12 V. Transmitters of MT series have the maximum possible technical characteristics with minimal sizes. These miniature transmitters with frequency synthesis can have up to 16 beforehand set channels in L, S or C diapason. There is an opportunity of switch of outlet power level between 0.25 Wt and 2.0 Wt. Facilities of this series provide transfer of PAL or NTSC video signal of broadcasting quality and two channels of sound accompaniment. Sound entries can be microphone or linear (depending on transmitter’s performance). All versions of transmitters of Mt series consume current of less than 1 A when power from the source of continuous current of 12 V. Compact full-scale transmitters of ST series operate in 350…440 MHz, 1.7…1.85; 2.0…2.7; 4.4…5.0; 6; 7; 8 GHz diapasons and have an opportunity of resetting on frequency in wide limits (99 channels). The level of outlet power of transmitters can switch (0.25 Wt or 2.0 Wt in ST models, 3 Wt or 10 Wt in ST-10000 models). Facilities of ST series provide transfer of PAL or NTSC video signal of broadcasting quality and two wideband channels of sound accompaniment.
Transmitters of ST series differ in wide flexibility of available settings what allow optimal configurations according with concrete conditions of work. Sound entries independent from each other can switch for operating with microphone or linear signal levels. If it is necessary to transfer only composite video signal, sound channels can be turned off. Control of all functions of transmitters is done together with contemporary microprocessor with friendly user’s interface, par of which is large liquid crystal display on which operating frequency of transmitter, level of outlet power, and set levels of sensitivity of sound entries are reflected. Transmitters of ST series can be also controlled remotely through RS-232 interface with the help of hand wire remote control panel GMS RCB-2000. All operating parameters of transmitters are stored in power independent memory what provides security of settings in case of power shutting down. High quality of video image and two channels of sound together with small dimensions and not big consumed power allow successful using of ST series transmitters for out of studio broadcasting, during filming of sports programs, filming from the air, etc. Distinguishing feature of STM transmitter, the new product of GMS, is an opportunity of work in different diapasons. STM transmitter is compact universal base block, which operates in diapason of 2 GHz and to which simple and compact adapters-multipliers of frequency for operating in different in diapasons of 7 or 13 GHz. For transfer from one operating diapason to another it is necessary just to connect to corresponding adapter antenna for chosen diapason. Such an architecture allows providing the high flexibility of the system at reasonable price, as additional adapters and antennas can be bought with time, as there appears the necessity in them. STM transmitters provide transfer of PAL or NTSC video signal of broadcasting quality and two wideband channels of sound accompaniment. GMS ReceiversFor different fields of application GMS Company offers different models of receivers, which provide industrial or broadcasting quality of receiving signal and differ in their opportunities, set of additional functions and constructive performance.
The new products of GMS Company are receivers of XR series. These are economic 16-channeled microwave receivers for industrial application and video tracking systems. They are done on the base of contemporary technology and allow receiving of video signal of PAL or NTSC with two channels of sound accompaniment in 1.7…1.85; 2.0…2.7; 4.4…5.0; 6; 7; 8 GHz diapason. XR receivers have the frequency synthesizer and can operate in one of 16 beforehand set channels. Switching of channels is controlled by microprocessor and special rotating switcher does their choice. The receiver is equipped with LED indicator of entering signal level, presence of which simplifies the choice of tight orientation of receiving antenna. Among peculiarities of receivers of XR series there should be mentioned the presence on the entry of integration band-pass filter of high frequency and small noise strengthener of high frequency with noise level of not more than 4.5 dB, double SAW filter in intermediate frequency time for perfection of selectivity. The receiver has two outlets of composite video signal and symmetrical sound outlets. Small sizes and low power consumption allow using with success the receiver of XR series for remote control and supervision. Receivers of SR series and done on the base of contemporary technology and allow to receive video signal of PAL or NTSC standard of broadcasting quality with two channels of sound accompaniment in 350…440 MHz; 1.7…1.85; 2.0…2.7; 4.4…5.0; 6; 7; 8 GHz diapason. Control of all functions of SR receivers in done by microprocessor with the help of simple menu system. The choice of receiving channel, regulation of outlet sound levels and other setting are done with the help of buttons on the front panel of receiver. There is also situated LCD display, on which such parameters as channel number, signal level on receiver’s entry, outlet levels, etc are indicated. The level of outlet signal, reflected in analogous and digital forms, allows simplifying the setting of antenna’s orientation. Remote control of receivers through the RS-232 interface with the help of hand wire remote control panel GMS RCB-2000 is possible as well. Among peculiarities of SR series the presence of integration small noise strengthener of high frequency with noise level of not more than 4 dB (5 dB for 6…8 GHz diapasons), scheme with double frequency transformer with use of SAW filters in each cascade of intermediate frequency for perfection of selectivity should be pointed out. In video path of the receiver there is the build-in low frequency filter, due to which the necessity to use external filters disappears. The receiver has two entries of composite video signal and symmetrical sound outlets. Small sizes and low power consumption allow using receivers of XR series for successful solution of almost any tasks connected with transfer of video image and sound of broadcasting quality. Products of LR series represent SR receiver in firm aluminum body and equipped with liquid crystal monitor. The LR receiver combines the checked reliability of SR series models with new qualities, which are required by fast developing market of broadcasting technologies.
Comparing with SR receivers in LR series additionally there is band-pass high frequency filter for decrease of noises from neighboring channels, universal power block from the mains of alternate current and liquid crystal color monitor of 6.5" size. All that is situated in firm milled body made of aluminum alloy, which construction allows setting it easily on usual tripod for video cameras, what is comfortable while operating in field conditions. Receivers of LR series are ideal for organization of temporary connection lines “point-point”, when it is necessary that the system was maximum flexible and mobile. For example, when organizing of broadcasts from the air LR receiver allow easily tracking direction of flying retransmitter, controlling the quality of received video image on build-in video monitor. Receiving facilities of L series are an optimal choice for creation of fast unfolding high quality broadcasting systems and allow solving any problems connected with transfer of video image and sound of broadcasting quality. Antennas for GMS Transmitters and ReceiversDepending on conditions, in which signal transfer is occurring with GMS transmitters and receivers can be used different types of antennas different in their construction, direction diagrams, polarization and amplification. Spiral antennas (Helical CP)
Spiral antennas are produced for L, S, C, and X diapasons and are good for television broadcasting and other application spheres. They have firm construction and small weight.
