At the end of September 2002, there was put in exploitation a new 18-camera mobile television station designed by Figaro.

“Kiparis” MTS was employed as body. This MTS was a crowing achievement in the field of outside broadcasting of the Soviet period. The station consists of the following functional parts:

• director section;
• sound engineer room;
• engineering section for technical staff and general equipment;
• transport section for storing and transportation of cable reels and external adjustment panels.

But the main advantage of this station is sliding wall that allows moving inside the body, between sections without leaving MTS. Run made 27 ths km, which is quite small. Running gear was in working order and ready after small preventive maintenance. Air conditioning system was replaced. Inner decoration was also renewed. Besides, lighting system was improved and floor heating was restored.

Equipment, installed earlier, was demounted along with cabling, and, as a result, body employed only stands. Monitor rack, video engineer desk and furniture in sound engineer section were manufactured anew.

For maximum output of earlier installed equipment it was decided to employ component channel.

Having 12 Ikegami cameras, MTS is capable of adjusting 6 more outer cameras, which allows operating with total number of 18 cameras.

Center of the station is a component video matrix 32×16 and system of integrated control and signalization of LES company manufacture. This allowed on-air signalization during forming of two programs and use of MagicDave video mixer of Snell&Wilcox company as central control panel.

Video signals are recorded onto four default and three additional video tape recorders of Betacam SP format. MTS is equipped with four-channel system of slow review and playback of EVC company. For titling the station uses a device of Stream Alpha company (Russia) as character generator. The system of personnel communication is based on matrix of Drake company.

Sound channel contains Soundcraft mixer, CD- and MD-players, two-channel compressor-limiter, and distribution amplifiers.

Video engineer may both monitor output program on two displays and send signal onto any display from any camera, which is necessary during recording musical programs. First, MTS was designed for operating at large-scale events (concerts, sport competitions, etc.), therefore it is possible to receive and transmit big number of signals, both audio/video and communication ones. Here, MTS may operate also as driven unit in case its eighteen cameras are not enough and there is a necessity to receive formed programs from other MTSs.

This project has shown that competent development of the project and economical spending of funds contribute to a new life of MTS that did not come in handy during reorganization, was out of work for several years, was modernized without success several times, and would seem have no future.
