Sennheiser dynamic microphones
Lev Orlov

Evolution series

This is the most "democratic" dynamic microphone series by Sennheiser. The series is notable for exceptional construction reliability and all-crystalline zinc die-cast housing durability. The microphone heads of this series feature an advanced shock-resistant suspension of the coil which is covered by an acoustically transparent protective grid, as well as neodymium magnets providing very high sound pressure capability (above 150 dB across the entire frequency range) and maximum sensitivity with excellent feedback rejection. The modifications with the "S" mark are fitted with silent on/off switches.

What's noteworthy is that the E835 and E 845 microphone head models are used in the Sennheiser evolution wireless systems.

E 835 dynamic microphone

It is a by no means expensive lead vocal stage microphone with frequency-independent cardioid polar pattern. This means the sound signal quality does not depend upon the vocalist's location relative to the microphone directivity axis. The E853's frequency response has a small mid-range boost to balance the overall tonal image. The microphone ensures an extremely low proximity effect.

E 845 dynamic microphone

This is a high-performance super-cardioid lead vocal microphone with an extended high-frequency response for excellent speech intelligibility. The model features a frequency-independent polar pattern, low proximity effect level and smooth, warm sounding with a small mid-range boost.

Classic series

This series is a "rich inheritance" of Sennheiser. The microphone models relating to it were developed some decades ago, are expensive enough and, nevertheless, very popular among professionals. Owing to high reproduction quality and an extremely low self-noise level, they, on a level with condenser microphones, are used for studio recording and important on-stage applications.

MD 421 II announcer dynamic microphone

This is a studio quality dynamic microphone, the standard for on-air announcers. Besides, it may be used with guitar preamps and for reinforcement of drums. For many years, the model has been sold on large quantities all over the world.

MD 46 reporter dynamic microphone

An entertainment industry giant - the American NBC Corporation took the lead in development of the new MD 46 dynamic microphone from Sennheiser.

In 2000, instead of a usual omnidirectional microphone, the reporters from NBC felt the need of a cardioid version that could meet the requirements for constructional durability in harsh field environments. Sennheiser made 150 copies and passed them to the specialists from NBC for field tests. The tests did not pass unnoticed, and engineers from other broadcasting organizations began displaying keen interest in this new reporter's cardioid microphone. In 2001, the MD 46 was put into serial production. Granted, this is really an ideal variant specially optimized for rough use under live reporting and broadcasting conditions, where there is a need for reliable, so to say, "working horses". The microphone is also optimized for speech intelligibility owing to a slight mid-range boost (presence) and bass roll-off. During working with the MD 46, there's no need to apply additional low-cut filters! Rugged, full-metal housing provides reliable protection from ambient mechanical noise, and the two-ply sound inlet basket provides increased protection from wind and pop noise.
