JLCooper Electronics
Larisa Bocharova

Edit controllers, manufactured by JLCooper Electronics developing full series of control, synchronization, and interfacing products for professional audio, video, and multimedia production, are designed for professional users. They make controlling any non-linear edit system similar to controlling a usual VTR without tedious mouse and key commands.

These reliable and inexpensive control panels are characterized by wide collection of functions, lightening and simplifying operating; open modular architecture, allowing configuring control station depending on active tasks with capability of easy and quick upgrade; and also ergonomic design, providing easy, convenient operating even in limited working area conditions.

JLCooper controllers may operate with all computer platforms and are supported by such manufacturers as Adobe, Discreet, Matrox, DPS/Leitch, Autodesk, AVID, Media 100, Panasonic, Tektronix, Yamaha, Softimage, Akai, Sonic Foundry, Sonic Solutions, Soundscape, Spectral, Steinberg, etc.

JLCooper Electronics manufactures several series of controllers: CS, MCS, MCS-Pro, MCS-3000.

MCS-3000 series

Console JLCooper of MCS-3000 series
JLCooper stations of MCS-3000 series provide simple, sensor control of workstations, hard disk recording systems, VTRs and DDRs for audio and video production. Enjoying all advantages of JLCooper systems' open modular architecture, whose each module is a fully independent unit carrying specific functions, MCS-3000 controllers, in their turn, also allow gradual raising the number of control modules. Here the necessary functional units may be used in various combinations forming configurations that meet concrete current requirements and providing maximum comfort for the users and their effective work.

Universal MCS-3800 console is one of the most functional models of the series. It is a full-size digital keypad featuring balanced concentric jog wheel and shuttle ring, motorized touch sensitive moving faders, 60 user programmable function keys, back lit LCD and LED dual displays, 5 rotary encoders, sensor professional transport controls. MCS-3800 expands to offer as many as 64 moving faders with over 300 physical function keys and a wide variety of control.

MCS-3000 and MCS-3400 controllers of MCS-3000 series are smaller consoles for edit systems, having fewer functions than MCS-3800. These controllers are used where space is at a premium or/and no faders (MCS-3000) or fewer than eight faders (MCS-3400) are required.

Additionally, MCS-3000, MCS-3400, MCS-3800 controllers may be connected with such devices as MCS-Orbiter, a motorized joystick allowing controlling different devices using relative parameters' values. MCS-Orbiter features 5 rotary encoders and 9 function keys. High-quality mechanism, providing joystick's motorization and touch sensitivity, allows exact and quick controlling, joystick being used for data input at any necessary time period. Like motorized faders, MCS-Orbiter dynamically tracks previously written joystick's moves. All that makes MCS-Orbiter essential for surround mixing and animation. MCS-Orbiter operates as a stand-alone controller, but it may be joined to other MCS-3000 series products to extend control functions. For instance, it may be joined to MCS-Wiper panel that controls wipes, dissolves, and other transitions in video editing and animation with the help of the well-known video fader, 5 rotary encoders and 8 function keys. Also it may be joined to MCS-Bridge module providing 2 additional rotary encoders, backlit function keys, and a 2-axis joystick for each channel.

MCS-3000 controllers may also be attached with MCS-Panner, a high quality 3-axis joystick with 5 rotary encoders and 8 keys for controlling edit functions on the display. MCS-Panner may be used with a variety of digital mixing consoles via the optional MCS Panner MIDI Adapter.

MCS-3000X is an 8-channel expander/controller for MCS-3000 controllers, connectable to the main panel in cases of faders' lack. Up to seven MCS-3000X's can be joined to form a console with up to 64 faders. MCS-3000X can be also used as a stand-alone controller.

MCS-Tracker provides dedicated track arming buttons, function keys and track status indicators. It allows assigning separate button to each of 32 tracks. Its dual LED's provide highly visible confirmation of the button's track status. MCS-Tracker employs 3 programmable keys whose functions are set by user. This panel, as well as other MCS-3000 devices, operates as a stand-alone unit or together with other products of this series.

CS102 and MCS2 series

CS102 panel
JLCooper Electronics Media Control Station panels of MCS2 and CS102 series are good complement to non-linear edit systems based on Macintosh or Windows platforms allowing increasing work productivity and efficiency. Consoles of these series provide large Record, Play, Stop, Fast, Forward, Rewind buttons making controlling computer system similar to usual professional VTR. Precision optically encoded jog/shuttle wheel allows jogging or shuttling with frame accuracy of up to 0 frames, and handy programmable buttons allow initiating a set of commands by one keystroke. Footswitch input, adjustable to CS-102 panel, allows hands-free operation. 6 rotary encoders and 8 soft 100mm physical faders for controlling atomization functions allow controlling processing (to provide additional controls up to 7 units of such faders may be used on one console).

At the same time, with more simple control MCS2 panels' software you can create your own presets, and also use screen buttons, data, etc. The MCS2 version designed for direct remote controlling RS-422-interface devices is available.

MCS-Pro series

MCS-3800 console
JLCooper Electronics controllers of MCS-Pro series are also designed for controlling non-linear edit systems, VTRs and DDRs. MCS-Pro consoles are compact remote control devices, equipped with various function keys, programmable buttons, high quality faders allowing high accuracy editing, precision optically encoded jog/shuttle wheels and many other devices needed for accurate and effortless editing.

In this series, JLCooper MCS3 panel, having perfect functional characteristics, should be singled out. This inexpensive and very convenient controller with transport buttons, precision optically encoded jog wheel and shuttle ring, and 18 function keys may be used with any non-linear audio/video edit programs on any platform. RS-422/9-Pin version for direct controlling professional VTRs and hard disk systems emulating recorders is available.

MCS-Pro series includes MCS-Locator, a video cue controller that allows operating with up to four VTRs or DDRs via RS-422/9-Pin interface. MCS-Locator features a full size numeric keypad for inputting locate points and a large 7 segment LED address-code display. Its typical applications include Start, Stop and Cueing of video tape recorders and digital disk recorders.

MCS-Tracker controller, included in the MCS-Pro series, provides 32 track arming buttons and additional function keys. MCS-Tracker's dual LEDs for each channel provide highly visible confirmation of track status and its function keys provide track grouping performing data change for several tracks at the same time. MCS-Tracker may be interfaced with most popular digital audio recording devices that support remote track arming via MIDI Machine Control. MCS-Tracker may also be used with a variety of editing systems and music software applications for track arming and status functions.
